Rumor: Nintendo pitching a Metroid movie

Posted on April 27, 2026 by (@NE_Brian) in General Nintendo, Rumors

A new report claims that Nintendo is currently in the process of pitching a Metroid movie.

Today’s updates comes from VScooper. This person mentioned on social media that, as of a few months ago, the film “was still in a bit of a push between studios”. Sony was said to be “one of the stronger contenders for Metroid, Universal is also fighting for it”.

We can’t personally speak to VScooper’s track record. However, his comments are enough to be making a kerfuffle online today. That said, we’d advise taking the report with a grain of salt.

A Metroid movie seemed like something that could have happened back in the 2000s. While a film was planned, creative disagreements ultimately led to it not moving forward. Gail Tilden, former marketing manager at Nintendo of America, also provided quite a bit of interesting insight into why the Metroid movie never came to be last year, which we covered here.

Movies are undoubtedly becoming a bigger part of Nintendo’s business. The company already has two animated Mario movies under its belt with The Legend of Zelda getting a live action film next year. We should expect other Nintendo franchises to hit the big screen, but concrete plans haven’t been shared yet.

Is there anything you’d like to see in a Metroid movie? Let us know in the comments.
