Single-player Final Fantasy 14

According to Fantasy 14 director and producer Naoki ‘Yoshi-P’ Yoshida, Square Enix has thought about making a single-player game set in the same world.

Yoshida made the remarks during a press event. He was asked about the possibility of creating a different type of game that would be single-player that potentially follows side characters or a different period of time.

In response, Yoshida said the following:

“Yes, I have thought about it. Considering how long that I’ve been working on this, I still feel that I want to continue bringing in even one more person around the world so that they can experience this game.”

“There are still a lot of people out there who look at an online Final Fantasy and they say, ‘Well, an online Final Fantasy is not a Final Fantasy.'”

“I would love to consider making a standalone Final Fantasy 14, but unfortunately, the only team that can potentially make a standalone Final Fantasy, the best kind of standalone Final Fantasy 14, is the current Final Fantasy 14 team. I mean, if we ever retire from Final Fantasy 14 Online, maybe we can do it, like […] our work after our retirement.”

Final Fantasy 14 was finally announced for Switch 2 yesterday after Yoshida said year after year that Square Enix was having discussions with Nintendo about bringing the MMORPG over to the console. Yoshida also said fans won’t have to be concerned with the frame rate on the console despite there being some issues.
