Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto responds to negative reviews of The Super Mario Galaxy Movie
Shigeru Miyamoto, the creator of Mario, has shared a few comments about negative reviews The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has received.
Just like the previous films, this one didn’t have the best critical reception. Right now The Super Mario Galaxy Movie sits at a 43 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it’s worth noting that the fan reception is much higher at 89 percent.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is about to debut in Japan, and Miyamoto was recently asked about how it’s going through something similar to its predecessor. Despite the negative reviews, it’s done very well at the box office.
Miyamoto told Nintendo Dream in an interview:
“The situations are similar, aren’t they? Actually, I thought the critics’ reviews of the first film were understandable. But I thought this time it would be different… and it was even harsher than last time, which I found strange (laughs). People from other mediums are coming in and working hard to liven up the film industry, so it’s really strange that the people who are trying to liven up the film industry are so passive.”
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has already earned about $750 million globally, and that’s before the release in Japan. It is currently the highest-grossing film of the year.
In other news, Miyamoto recently talked about how Fox McCloud ended up in the film. You can read more about that here.
