Nintendo has released its maintenance schedule for the week of May 10, 2026.
Two sessions have been announced, with both happening at the same time. Animal Crossing: New Horizons will be impacted for island backup while Nintendo Switch Online cloud saves will also be affected. Thankfully, the downtime will be short.

Mario Kart World dev discusses how the map was designed

What was it like designing the map for Mario Kart World? One Nintendo developer who worked on the game has shared some insight.
A member of the planning and development division wrote up a post on the company’s recruitment site. Now that Mario Kart has a world that can be explored, “UI that would allow players to intuitively understand this vast world was necessary.”

Things were a bit quiet on the Nintendo front last week and this week due to holidays in Japan, but that changed very quickly towards the end of Wednesday. Out of nowhere, the company announced and immediately broadcasted a Star Fox Direct, which revealed a remake of Star Fox 64 for Nintendo Switch 2. The title is coming very soon with its launch planned for June 25, 2026.
As a remake, the graphics have been fully redone as you’d expect. Nintendo is throwing in some new elements, including a new 4-vs-4 multiplayer Battle Mode, new detailed cutscenes, and more. You can find all of the details here.

Star Fox for Nintendo Switch 2 reveals amiibo support

The new Star Fox game for Switch 2 will feature amiibo support, according to Nintendo.
We got plenty of the details about the title this week, but news about amiibo functionality went under the radar. To be fair, it’s a bit hidden – there’s only a brief mention of it over on the official Japanese website.
Next Dragon Quest and more to be announced this month

Big Dragon Quest news is on the way including the announcement of the series’ next game. That’s according to Yuji Horii, the series’ creator.
During a KosoKoso podcast, which is now private, Horii said that a live stream will take place on May 27, 2026. It’s here where Square Enix will “be able to announce the next title/work.” Horii also teased “various other things besides the next title too.”

March was a pretty big month for new Nintendo Switch 2 releases, and that included a port of Kena: Bridge of Spirits. This was the first time that the action adventure game was made available on a Nintendo system.
We were recently given the opportunity to speak with Josh Grier, chief operating officer at Ember Lab, to learn more about what it was like bringing the title over to Nintendo Switch 2. Grier touched on the technical process as well as other topics like the game’s frame rate, the possibility of a physical release, and more.

Nintendo president apologizes for Switch 2 price increase, promises “robust software lineup” to make up for it

Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa has commented on the company’s plans moving forward in light of today’s price increase announcement for Switch 2.
The company intends to raise the console’s price worldwide. For example, in the U.S., it’ll be going up by $50. Price changes will be going into effect mostly in September, though it’ll be happening as early as this month in Japan.
