According to the director (and producer) of Final Fantasy 14, the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 version will keyboard and mouse controls, including support for the Joy-Con 2.

Plans to bring the MMORPG over to the console were finally confirmed last week. Now we have confirmation that you’ll be able to use mouse controls right out of the box. Every Nintendo Switch 2 system is sold with the Joy-Con 2 mouse controls built in.

Naoki Yoshida shared the news about keyboard and mouse controls for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy 14 during a recent press interview. Aside from that, he also had a good amount of praise for the system as part of his comments.

Yoshida said (via machine translation):

“You can use Joy-Con 2 for mouse control. However, I myself haven’t yet tried playing Savage raids with mouse controls… (laughs). I’m sure the QA (Quality Assurance) team will check the mouse controls, but since the Nintendo Switch 2 version can also be played with a controller, I think I’ll play it that way.

As you all know, the Nintendo Switch 2 is a fantastic piece of hardware. When you put it in the dock, you can play in TV mode, and you can also use handheld mode to play on the go. For example, when you’re tackling high-difficulty raids, you can connect a mouse and keyboard and play on the TV, or when you’re playing as a crafter or gatherer, you can switch to handheld mode. I think it will enable gameplay that is unique to the Nintendo Switch 2.”

Final Fantasy 14 will be on Nintendo Switch 2 in August. You can find more information about what’s planned for the launch, including a month of early access here. We also have information about what to expect from this version’s frame rate here.
