Star Fox Switch 2 Ideas

With rumors of a new Star Fox game coming to Nintendo Switch 2 in a matter of months, we’re talking about what we’d like to see.

Advance the canon. That’s about it! In all seriousness, the Star Fox series has been lying dormant for over ten years now. There hasn’t been an all-new Star Fox title since Star Fox Zero on Wii U, but it wasn’t received very well – and, perhaps more frustratingly, it was yet another retelling of the original Star Fox. To that end, the franchise’s biggest problem has been revealed: it keeps telling the same story. The original Star Fox sees the team taking on Andross for the first time. Star Fox 64 also sees the team taking on Andross for the first time, and then Star Fox Zero sees them in the exact same situation. The canon has been at a standstill for twenty years, since Star Fox Command on Nintendo DS. That’s a very, very long time for a series to tell no new stories. We’ll talk about this in more detail soon, but for now, here are some things we’d love to see from a new Star Fox game.

Glen Powell landing the role of Fox McCloud in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie was no happy accident.

Believe it or not, Powell is a massive Star Fox fan. Illumination CEO Chris Meledandri recently revealed to Forbes that the actor reached out after The Super Mario Bros. Movie and spoke about his passion for the character.

Powell actually wants to be involved with a Star Fox movie. While that has yet to happen, he did end up securing the role of Fox in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Insider NateTheHate has provided an update on a variety of Nintendo projects, including rumors about Zelda remake, a new Star Fox game, and the lack of a 3D Mario in 2026. This comes from a new podcast published today.

It’s claimed that Star Fox will be making a return on Nintendo Switch 2 this summer. Apparently it’ll be a classic style Star Fox game, and “the visuals are supposed to be very good”. Online multiplayer is apparently in as well. This would make sense given the appearance of Fox McCloud in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Star Fox return Takaya Imamura Miyamoto

Nintendo hasn’t done much with Star Fox since Star Fox Zero on Wii U – which came out years ago – but Takaya Imamura believes it will return someday.

For those that are unaware, Imamura was the character designer for Star Fox. He naturally has ties to Shigeru Miyamoto, who took the lead on the franchise. Imamura was speaking with The Gamer in a recent interview and mentioned how Miyamoto has “strong feelings” for Star Fox. While no one can say what exactly will happen in the future, Imamura thinks it will return at some point, but in what form and when he wouldn’t make any predictions.

Star Fox crew name origins

Dylan Cuthbert, a programmer and director for the Star Fox series, has spoken about how the names of the crew were decided. This was shared in a special 30th anniversary celebration video.

Cuthbert shared the following:

Back in 2015, The Wall Street Journal reported that Nintendo and Netflix were teaming up on a live-action TV series based on The Legend of Zelda. Nothing ever came from those rumors. If US comedian Adam Conover is to be believed, that was due to the original leak.

Conover shared the reported news during The Serf Times podcast. He also claimed that a Star Fox claymation project inspired by Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr. Fox movie adaptation was planned as well in partnership with CollegeHumor..

Conover said:

Netflix has a new video game documentary coming out next week. In the final episode, there’s talk about the relationship between Nintendo and Argonaut Software and the making of Star Fox on the SNES. Dylan Cuthbert and Giles Goddard, two developers who worked on the game, spoke about the development experience.

According to Goddard, the Big N “never had anybody outside Nintendo working in the building. They actually made a separate office for us in one room on our own, basically segregated out.”

We also have some interesting words from Cuthbert, who said that famous developer Shigeru Miyamoto was only allowed to smoke in the area that Star Fox was being developed. Cuthbert noted during the episode:

Shacknews has uploaded a new video showing off Fox McCloud in his Arwing, hunting for extractors in Starlink: Battle for Atlas’ questing system. Take a look at over ten minutes of gameplay footage below.

Ubisoft has announced a special collaboration for Starlink: Battle for Atlas. The Switch version will have exclusive add-on content featuring Fox McCloud, Arwing, and bonus missions.

Here’s a trailer:

We don’t need to point out how quiet Retro Studios has been since 2014. That was when the company’s last game, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, first appeared on Wii U.

Retro Studios is back in the news with some new speculation that has surfaced over the past couple of days. Alleged leaks claim that they’re working on the new Switch game Star Fox Grand Prix.
