It doesn’t take a genius to know that there’ll be a third movie for Super Mario at some point, but the voice of Toad has now indicated that another film will drop in 2029.
Keegan-Michael Key, who voices Toad in The Super Mario Bros. Movie as well as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, commented on the future in an interview with ScreenRant. He indicated that it’ll be a three-year wait for the next film so that the team can “get it right.”
Key said:

Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto has spoken about the approach to Peach’s character in the games and how he wanted to change things up for the movies.
In the mainline Super Mario titles, they’re typically about Peach being kidnapped. She’s essentially sidelined until the end when Mario rescues her. There’s been some criticism about this, which Miyamoto says he understands, but wanted to address this by changing things up with the movies.

It’s claimed that Star Fox will be making a return on Nintendo Switch 2 this summer. Apparently it’ll be a classic style Star Fox game, and “the visuals are supposed to be very good”. Online multiplayer is apparently in as well. This would make sense given the appearance of Fox McCloud in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.
