Big Dragon Quest news is on the way including the announcement of the series’ next game. That’s according to Yuji Horii, the series’ creator.

During a KosoKoso podcast, which is now private, Horii said that a live stream will take place on May 27, 2026. It’s here where Square Enix will “be able to announce the next title/work.” Horii also teased “various other things besides the next title too.”

Technically, Dragon Quest 12 was not specifically mentioned, so that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a lock for the upcoming event. Square Enix has been putting out a lot of remakes as of late, so another one of those is always a possibility. We also recently received evidence that Dragon Quest 11 S is coming to Nintendo Switch 2.

Dragon Quest originally debuted in Japan on May 27, 1986. That means the franchise is turning 40 this month, which is a huge milestone.

As for Dragon Quest 12, the project was announced almost five years ago now. However, we’ve yet to see anything from the game.

Is there any specific announcement you’re hoping for with Dragon Quest’s 40th anniversary? Let us know in the comments.
