Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth cuts back on background props on Nintendo Switch 2
The Nintendo Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has been drawing plenty of attention lately. Following the strong reception to Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade on Nintendo Switch 2, with many players praising the work Square Enix put into the port, anticipation has continued to build for Rebirth ahead of its June 3 launch on the console.
Now that the demo has been available for a couple of days, fans have started noticing some differences compared to the versions on other platforms. While the game appears to run well in docked mode overall, some players pointed out that a number of environmental objects inside houses have been removed.
While exploring homes in Nibelheim, items such as flower vases, framed photos, pots, and pans can no longer be seen. This applies both during gameplay and in cutscenes, as highlighted in comparison footage shared online.

It’s very likely these adjustments were made in order to help the game perform smoothly on the hardware. Even so, the changes have sparked plenty of discussion across social media, including a few humorous reactions. Some users joked about the noticeably emptier houses, while others defended the decision, saying it was a smart compromise to help optimize the experience for Nintendo Switch 2.
Others also pointed to previous examples of Nintendo hardware handling demanding games surprisingly well, with some comparing the situation to the original Switch version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
YouTuber and voice actor Jon Cartwright also shared a comparison video on the GVG channel showcasing the differences between platforms. While the PS5 version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth runs at 60 FPS and the Nintendo Switch 2 version tops out at 30 FPS, the port still appears to deliver solid overall performance, especially in indoor areas, though there are some subtle slowdowns in larger open environments.
