Nintendo Switch Online

Two more classic Game Boy titles have just arrived on Nintendo Switch Online with Yoshi and Balloon Kid. Both can be accessed on Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch.

Balloon Kid is the older of the two games having debuted in 1990. Yoshi isn’t too far behind though as we first saw it soon after (1991 in Japan, 1992 in the west).

Here’s an overview of both:

A new Nintendo Switch Online Game Trial has now been announced for Europe, which is Stardew Valley.

It can be played for free with an active membership starting tomorrow, January 29, lasting until February 4. Progress will transfer to the full game if you decide to make a purchase later.

Virtual Boy Nintendo Classics release date launch lineup

Nintendo has now set confirmed launch lineup for Virtual Boy – Nintendo Classics. This is going live on February 17, 2026 for Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack members.

Galactic Pinball, 3D-Tetris, and Teleroboxer, Virtual Boy Wario Land, The Mansion of Innsmouth, Golf, and Red Alarm are due out at first. Mario Clash, Mario’s Tennis, Jack Bros., Space Invaders Virtual Collection, Virtual Bowling, Vertical Force, and V-Tetris are also planned for this year. Zero Racers and D-Hopper, which were previously unreleased, are slated for 2026 as well.

Today, Nintendo announced Madden NFL 26 as the next Game Trial for its Switch Online service in North America. This is the first Nintendo Switch 2-only game that’s been a part of the promotion.

If you’re an active Nintendo Switch Online member, you can access the entirety of Madden NFL 26 starting on January 15 at 10 AM PT / 1 PM ET. Progress transfers to the full version for those that decide to purchase it later.

Despite recent reports, input lag still appears to be an issue with GameCube games on Nintendo Switch Online.

Fans recently had some hope that the problem was being addressed following the latest update. The GameCube classics app moved up to version 1.4.0 with the addition of Wario World, and there was recently talk within the community that input lag had improved. However, it turns out that isn’t the case.

December 3: Nintendo has just added Metroid Prime 4: Beyond themed icons to Nintendo Switch Online. Both Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch owners can grab them now.

Characters and backgrounds are currently available based on the game. For the former, it’s 10 Platinum Points each on My Nintendo. Backgrounds go for 5 Platinum Points each. You’ll always be able to keep them, even if your Nintendo Switch Online membership ends.

December 4: To ring in the holidays, special icons have now been made available on Nintendo Switch Online. This is a limited time event for Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch owners, lasting until December 25.

Characters, backgrounds, and frames are available. Everything here is focused on Super Mario, with Mario himself, Luigi, Peach, Toad, and Yoshi featured – at least for wave one. There’ll be a couple of additional waves during the month.

November 19: Nintendo Switch Online has added in a new set of icons, which celebrates the release of Kirby Air Riders. They can be claimed on both Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch.

Like most sets, there are characters, backgrounds, and frames available. If you’re going for a character, each one costs 10 Platinum Points on My Nintendo. The others are 5 Platinum Points each.

A new Nintendo Switch Online Game Trial has been announced for Europe, which is Disney Illusion Island. The event begins today, lasting until December 17.

With the Game Trial, if you’re a Nintendo Switch Online member, you can access the entire game for free. Additionally, all progress transfers to the full version. And simply by participating, you’ll earn 100 Platinum Points on My Nintendo.

We have news about another classic game on Nintendo Switch Online, as Wario World has now gone live on Switch 2.

The GameCube title first debuted in 2003. Now if you have a membership to Nintendo Switch Online’s Expansion Pack tier, you can play the game now.
