Donkey Kong Bananza

Donkey Kong was the star of Donkey Kong Bananza and also had a fairly prominent role in The Super Mario Bros. Movie. This may have been expected, but the character is different in both movies.

This information comes from Donkey Kong Bananza producer Kenta Motokura. IGN asked if he pictures DK talking in his head. Motokura responded in the affirmative, but also pointed out how in the game, Donkey Kong “is a double of the player, and so they don’t speak, allowing the player to project a little bit more.”

According to Motokura:

If there’s one way in which Nintendo went “too far” in Donkey Kong Bananza, it’d be the Elephant Bananza.

The Nintendo Switch 2 game is all about destruction. There are many ways in which players can go about that in the game, but the Elephant Bananza takes that up a notch. With it, Donkey Kong can inhale almost everything around him, including some damaging terrain live lava and thorns.

In this day and age, there are plenty of controversies surrounding video games – and it feels like there’s a new Nintendo-adjacent controversy every other day. To be fair, though, many of those controversies are valid – some recent ones that come to mind are Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition’s poor upscaling on Nintendo Switch 2 and the sky-high prices for amiibo.

One Nintendo controversy that wasn’t justified in my opinion, however, was Donkey Kong Bananza’s DLC. When I reviewed Emerald Rush a few months ago, I had played the new mode for somewhere around 15 hours and wasn’t quite hooked. Nearly six months later, however, and that’s changed – I find myself going back to Donkey Kong Bananza every month or so to play the new in-game events. Super Mario Odyssey had a somewhat similar system with Luigi’s Balloon World, but that doesn’t compare to Emerald Rush at all – I remember a ton of balloons in Luigi’s Balloon World being placed out-of-bounds, so the mode wound up more like a showcase of game knowledge (including technical strategies and especially glitches). Emerald Rush, however, is where the bulk of Donkey Kong Bananza’s challenge lies. And it’s a very rare case of a 3D platformer that’s kept me coming back six months later without replaying the story from the beginning.

Donkey Kong Bananza 3.2.0 update

Nintendo has released the latest update for Donkey Kong Bananza, and as of today, players can access version 3.2.0.

Unfortunately, Nintendo is being rather cryptic here. The company says it has addressed some issues, but the specifics were not provided.

With that said, the official notice is as follows:

Donkey Kong Bananza 3.1.0 update

Yet another Nintendo game has received an update tonight, which is Donkey Kong Bananza with version 3.1.0.

This patch is fairly small in scale. Polish is now supported, and some unspecified issues have been fixed.

For the full patch notes, continue on below.

2025 was a big year for Nintendo in many ways, but it was also arguably the biggest year yet for King K. Rool, one of the company’s most beloved villains. You could argue that 2018 was the king’s best year, given the announcement of his inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate as a new fighter. 2025 was at least a close second, then – thanks to King K. Rool’s appearances in games and even on the Nintendo Today app, it seems his future could be brighter than ever. Note that there will be spoilers in this post.

Donkey Kong Bananza 3.0.0 update

Nintendo has just started distribution of a new update for Donkey Kong Bananza, which is version 3.0.0.

There are a couple of main additions. First, Thai is supported as an additional language. Also, “Camera’s automatic tracking” is now in the options.

The full rundown of the update is as follows:

Square Enix is gearing up for the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake, and to celebrate, the company has shared a special video with us featuring Yoshinori Kitase. In it, he goes over his top Nintendo Switch 2 / Switch games, which are Ring Fit Adventure, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake.

Kitase acted as a producer on both Final Fantasy 7 Remake and Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. He is expected to be involved with the concluding third title as well.

Here’s the full video with Kitase in which he discusses why Ring Fit Adventure, Donkey Kong Bananza, and Dragon Quest 3 HD-2D Remake are his favorite Nintendo Switch 2 / Switch games:

Donkey Kong Bananza limited time Emerald Rush event guide

Donkey Kong Bananza’s first limited-time Emerald Rush event is live, and we’ve got some tips and tricks so you can get all of its rewards in one go.

A while back, we compiled an even larger collection of tips and tricks for Emerald Rush. Those still apply here, so we’d highly recommend reading it in case you need to brush up on your skills. Fortunately, this event is actually far easier than getting an emerald medal on the highest difficulty of any given stage. To obtain the exclusive Enguarde and Kong Bananza statues, you’ll need to collect 1 million emeralds in a single round. That sounds daunting, but the reason this event is easier is because all of the emerald perks that appear revolve around chips. That means every single emerald perk you choose will actually be helpful – unlike non-event Emerald Rush runs, where you have to sift through dozens of bonuses that don’t immediately bring you any benefit.

Donkey Kong Bananza 2.0.2 update

Nintendo has released the latest update for Donkey Kong Bananza, which is version 2.0.2.

The patch is all about the latest bug fixes and general improvements. In particular, an issue was addressed in which Pauline’s voice wouldn’t play at times when acquiring a fossil.
