Mina the Hollower dev talks about the game’s price and why it’s so cheap

Yacht Club Games has commented on how it came to the final price for Mina the Hollower, which you could argue is on the cheaper side.

Mina the Hollower is the next big indie game on the horizon. Just from the fact that it’s coming from the same studio behind Shovel Knight, that’s enough to generate lots of hype for the launch. The title was previously planned for release last Halloween, so the extra wait has only added to that anticipation.

Sean Velasco, designer and director at Yacht Club Games has now spoken about how the team settled on the price for Mina the Hollower. Although it’s higher than Shovel Knight, at $20, that’s very reasonable and some companies may have been inclined to go on the higher side – especially given the team’s pedigree.

Velasco told RPG Site in a recent interview:

“We priced it to sell! We want to move a lot of copies. We considered that we could probably sell it for more, but we thought that people are feeling squeezed financially right now, and there are also a billion other great games out there. So we wanted Mina to feel like an instant purchase!”

We’ll also mention that the Nintendo Switch to Switch 2 upgrade pack will be free. On the new console, there’s higher refresh rates, larger screen resolutions, HDR support, and Joy-Con 2 mouse features.

Mina the Hollower will be out for both Nintendo Switch 2 and Switch on May 27, 2026. It’s a notable release for Yacht Club as the team needs the game to be a hit.

How do you feel about Mina the Hollower’s price? Were you surprised to see it so low? Let us know in the comments.
