It doesn’t take a genius to know that there’ll be a third movie for Super Mario at some point, but the voice of Toad has now indicated that another film will drop in 2029.

Keegan-Michael Key, who voices Toad in The Super Mario Bros. Movie as well as The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, commented on the future in an interview with ScreenRant. He indicated that it’ll be a three-year wait for the next film so that the team can “get it right.”

Key said:

“We want to get it right. We want to get everything right. We want to get all the details right. And Michael and Aaron, who are our directors, have a real passion for this. I think they’re as passionate about these projects as the audience is. And so we got to get it right, we got to get it right. So I apologize. But it’ll be worth the wait. It’ll be worth the wait…’29 is better than sometime, right?”

The Super Mario Bros. Movie released in 2023. We then just saw The Super Mario Galaxy Movie last month. Because of that, waiting three years for the third film would actually be expected.

Even without Key’s comments, many have anticipated Nintendo and Illumination teaming up again in the future. The Super Mario Bros. Movie earned over $1 billion at the box office and The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is about to hit the same amount.

New toys based on The Super Mario Galaxy Movie were just announced a few days ago. In case you missed it, we have the full details here.
