A few hours ago, we posted some tidbits from a new Asahi interview with Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima about the company’s movie plans. The outlet’s complete interview has now been translated in full.

We have Kimishima’s complete comments on movies, plus remarks about mobile and NX. Continue on below for the translation, courtesy of GSR.

-You’re currently working to invest your IP in new fields. In April Nintendo sold its stake in the Seattle Mariners; are you putting the income from that to use?

We aren’t looking to make money simply by directly licensing our characters, but we must invest heavily in new areas such as film production going forward. When we’ve finalized that sale, we’d like to use part of the proceeds in these areas.

-By film production, you mean movies?

The most common meaning is films, but there’s a variety of opportunities such as video content. We’re currently talking with a number of partners, and I think we’ll be able to finalize something in the not-too-distant future.

In recent times, Nintendo has spoken about the potential of the company entering the movie business. This is something that president Tatsumi Kimishima discussed more concretely while speaking with Asahi.

The site reports that Nintendo is getting into the movie business, with Kimishima hinting that the company is looking at a production system where “we can do as much as we can ourselves.” Kimishima added that Nintendo would like to have it’s first movie ready within the next 2-3 years. Various franchises are up for consideration.

As far as specifics go, nothing was shared in particular with Asahi.

We’re back with a new comic after last week’s hiatus of sorts! We’re also returning Ted and Bowser’s adventure. So where did they end up? Let’s take a look…

Global License’s May issue has an article dedicated to Sonic. Chief brand officer Ivo Gerscovich along with SEGA of America’s Kisten B. Zimmer had plenty to share about the character.

One topic discussed is SEGA’s interest in bringing Sonic into theme parks. Specifically, there’s a quote from Gerscovich in which he states, “The [Sonic] brand is a perfect fit for theme park partnerships.” There have been other recent hints about this before, so it seems quite possible that it’ll happen at some point.

Global License also indicates that Sonic will have a presence at E3 next month. The article states that “SEGA has a lineup of events planned for the Beloved Blur Blur’s anniversary that started with a Twitch panel at SXSW and will be followed by events at PAX, E3, San Diego Comic-Con, New York Comic-Con and a 25th anniversary party at the House of Blues in San Diego.” Much of this we knew about previously, but the E3 part does appear to be new.

Other than that, Global License’s article talks about merchandise, YouTube, and Twitch plans. There’s nothing in there about a new Sonic game, but any news on that front would come from a big event like the 25th anniversary party, which will have “surprise announcements”.

The first worldwide Splatfest in Splatoon is now over. All regions competed to see if players would rather go to a fancy party or a costume party. We now have the results.

Thanks to slight edges in both votes and wins, Team Fancy Party came out on top. Needless to say, it was extremely close. The final score was 358 points to 342 points.

In one of its recent issues, Famitsu published an interview with the developers behind Pokken Tournament. The magazine spoke with director and chief producer Katsuhiro Harada, director Haruki Suzaki, and producer Masaaki Hoshino. Topics include the reception on Wii U, trying to make the game approachable, and more.

We have a summary of the full interview. To read our translation, head past the break.

Short site update I want to sneak in here: we still have a comic coming this weekend, and it should be up tomorrow. Don’s been very busy, but he’s working extremely hard. We appreciate your patience!

It took a few months, but we finally saw the first gameplay trailer for Pokemon Sun/Moon this week. The world was shown, the mascots and boxarts were unveiled, a release date was announced, and… we have a first look at the new starter Pokemon! They are Rowlen, Litten, and Popplio.

What’s everyone making of Pokemon Sun/Moon thus far? Have you already decided on the starter you’ll be going with? Since we’ve seen the legendaries, do you have a better idea about which version you’ll be buying (or both)? Share your thoughts with us in the comments below!

Splatoon has sold very well in all regions, but its performance in Japan is particularly impressive. The game is actually the most-successful IP console launch since the Wii series of games (Wii Sports, etc.).

Splatoon is sitting at around 1,357,000 copies sold in Japan. Wii U itself has moved around 3,165,000 units. By the time Wii U is phased out, the tie-in ratio could end up at 50 percent.

Thanks to Jake for the tip.

Last month, Game Informer published an overview of sorts for the Fire Emblem series. The magazine looked back at the franchise’s early days leading up to Fire Emblem Fates. There are some interesting developer comments as well.

Fire Emblem wasn’t introduced overseas until the GBA era. It was actually Nintendo producer Hitoshi Yamagami who had the idea of bringing it west, and he approached developer Intelligent Systems about his plan.

Yamagami said:

“Intelligent Systems was worried at first about whether it’d sell or not, but given the series’ support in Japan, I felt sure that audiences elsewhere would connect with it as well, and that’s how development began.”
