Pokemon Champions

Pokemon Champions rough start

If you’re a dedicated Pokemon fan, you probably know the drill by now: whenever a new Pokemon game releases, there’s always a whole bunch of negativity that pops up around it. A good chunk of it is justified, but sometimes people take that negativity a bit too far. So when I played Pokemon Champions for the first time last night, I went in as optimistically as possible – after all, this game is the future of competitive Pokemon, and the one official VGC tournaments will use from here on out.

Four hours later, and I can’t help but be massively disappointed with this product. That being said, at the time of writing, Pokemon Champions hasn’t even existed for a full day – is it really that bad? Technically, this is passable in terms of gameplay and mechanics – it’s everything else that truly disappoints. Here are all of the things I hope to see Pokemon Champions improve in future updates, even though those are probably at least a month or two away, if I had to guess.

Pokemon Champions Pokemon list

A list is now available covering all of the confirmed Pokemon in Pokemon Champions. This is based on various previews, footage, and now that the game is out, the final release.

Pokemon Champions will initially feature a selection of creatures to battle with. While there are over 1,000 Pokemon, it’ll be a long time until Champions hits that number. Currently the roster stands at about 200 (depending on how you count Mega Evolutions) – at least for now. The good news is that we’ve already heard the team will be updating the game, and could even see it being around “forever”.

With that out of the way, here’s the current list:

Pokemon Champions bonuses

The Pokemon Company has revealed a pair of bonuses for Pokemon Champions with the game launching imminently.

Between April 8 and August 31, players can get their hands on a Dragonite as well as 100 Quick Coupons. You’ll need to download and play the game in order to access both. Both will be distributed via the in-game mailbox.

As previously announced, Pokemon Home has received a version 4.0.0 update. Users should be seeing the update roll out now on mobile and Nintendo Switch devices. Keep in mind that the app’s servers are currently undergoing maintenance, making the software unusable until 5 AM PT / 8 AM ET / 1 PM in the UK / 2 PM in Europe.

The new update brings with it support for Pokemon Legends: Z-A, and the upcoming Pokemon Champions game. Latin American Spanish has also been added as a language option, and that is pretty much it.

Pokemon Champions price

One of the big questions surrounding Pokemon Champions is how much the price would be. Although the game is free to download, there are extras that core fans may be interested in that cost extra.

Information has now come in thanks to PanFro Games. Nintendo was on hand for a demo at PAX East 2026 and spoke about what to expect in terms of pricing.

Here’s what’s in store for the game and what you’ll get:

In a new report first published by GamesRadar, Pokemon Champions producer Masaaki Hoshino shared additional details about the upcoming title, set to launch on April 8 for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

Pokemon Champions finally had its release date revealed yesterday, launching on April 8 for Nintendo Switch and Switch 2, with a strong promise to further expand the franchise’s competitive scene. According to the game’s producer, Masaaki Hoshino, the expectation is for the title to last for many years.

Pokemon Champions release date

The release date for Pokemon Champions has just come in. On Nintendo Switch, the game launches on April 8, 2026. A free update will be available on Nintendo Switch 2 for enhanced visual performance.

New abilities were also unveiled today. The first one, for Mega Meganium is Mega Sol, which lets the creature use its moves as if the weather were harsh sunlight. For Mega Emboar, Mold Breaker will be available, allowing it to ignore opposing Abilities when using moves. Finally, Mega Feraligatr’s new Ability Dragonize converts its Normal‑type moves into Dragon‑type moves and boosts their power by 20 percent.
