Koei Tecmo

The Pokemon Company and Nintendo just announced the first sales milestone for Pokemon Pokopia. Since launch, the game has sold over 2.2 million copies. This is based on the first four days of release.

According to the announcement, Pokemon Pokopia has sold over one million copies in Japan alone. We should get a better idea about the performance at retail with Famitsu’s weekly sales report tomorrow morning.

Pokemon Pokopia review

System: Switch 2
Release date: March 5, 2026
Developer: Koei Tecmo
Publisher: Nintendo

As someone who loves Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and Minecraft, Pokemon Pokopia sneaked its way onto my radar when it first revealed in the September 2025 Nintendo Direct. On paper, this had a chance to be Nintendo’s lightning in a bottle – Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and Minecraft are some of the best-selling franchises of all time, and Pokopia promised to combine elements from all three to create the next big life simulator game. It’s strange, though – the game always looked charming and interesting on the surface, but I never found myself hyping up its release. I didn’t see a ton of hype online, either – most likely, none of us really knew what we were getting into. Pokemon fans are always hopeful that the latest game is a good one, and often times they find themselves disappointed with major releases like Sword, Shield, Scarlet, and Violet. I myself was cautiously optimistic going in… which is to say, I already have 50 hours, it’s completely consumed my life, I can’t imagine life without it, and this is the Switch 2 system seller Nintendo has been looking for.

Koei Tecmo put out a demo for Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake on all platforms this week, which is allowing fans to put a Nintendo Switch 2 vs. PS5 vs. Xbox Series S/X graphics comparison.

Right now the biggest concern on all platforms might be performance. Although the game targets 30 frames per second everywhere, we’re hearing that it can be unstable. The Nintendo Switch 2 version has a dynamic 1080p resolution from a roughly common 720p-576.

Pokemon is being tied to the American political scene again following the latest social media post involving Pokemon Pokopia.

It’s quickly becoming apparent that the new Nintendo Switch 2 title is going to be one of the more popular games this year. You’ve got a multitude of factors here. Pokemon always has big reach, it’s a well-reviewed title, and it’s perfect for social media.

Pokemon Pokopia has finally launched on the Nintendo Switch 2, and as players continue to explore the game, some references are beginning to surface. One of them appears to be related to the franchise’s newly announced title, Pokemon Winds and Waves.

The reference was first spotted and reported by VGC, which noted that an early in-game poster may be hinting at the upcoming entry. As seen in the images below, the poster featuring Lumineon closely resembles imagery shown in the debut trailer for the new title.

Pokemon Pokopia event Hoppip, Skiploom, Jumpluff

Pokemon Pokopia launch is just starting to take place, and we already know about the game’s first event which will feature Hoppip, Skiploom, and Jumpluff. These three creatures will be added to the game.

The event kicks off on March 10. The event, Hoppip’s Cotton, will bring in Cotton and lets players befriend Hoppip, Skiploom, and Jumpluff. Cotton can be exchanged for new items which are used to make habitats for Skiploom and Jumpluff. The event concludes on March 25, 2026.

Pokemon Pokopia 1.0.1 update

Pokemon Pokopia has already started distribution of its first update with version 1.0.1. If you’ve pre-loaded the game, you should see it going out shortly.

This is a day-one patch for the game. The good news is that there isn’t much here – some unspecified issues have been addressed, but that’s pretty much it. We sometimes see games launch with big day one updates, but that won’t be the case this time around.

The official notice about the update is as follows:

Pokemon Pokopia reviews

Pokemon Pokopia will be available in just a few days, and before the launch happens, reviews are starting to come in.

Pokemon Pokopia is a new spin-off that takes the series in a different direction. The life simulation game, which some have said is like Animal Crossing and Minecraft, has you playing as the human-like Ditto as you learn moves from Pokemon, collect materials, build furniture, grow vegetables, and create homes. Multiplayer is also supported with up to three other players in which it’s possible to visit other towns and invite friends to their own.

Below is the initial roundup of reviews for Pokemon Pokopia:

Pokemon is about to get its next spinoff game with the upcoming launch of Pokemon Pokopia. Now thanks to Game Freak’s Shigeru Ohmori, we’re able to learn about where the name actually comes from.

Ohmori spoke about this in a recent interview with Famitsu. It looks like there’s a few things at play here. Ohmori mentioned wanting to go with “a slightly looser” title, and using certain phrases that eventually led to “Poko A Pokemon” in Japanese.
