January 27: Koei Tecmo is readying a demo for Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake, the company just announced. It’s due out on March 5, 2026.

Right now we’re waiting to hear about further details. However, we do know that save data will transfer to the full game.

Fatal Frame 2 Remake 1.03.02 update

Koei Tecmo has announced the first post-launch update for Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake, which will be version 1.03.02. Nintendo Switch 2 owners should be able to download it now.

The new update makes a number of different balance adjustments. These include nerfs to Aggravated Wraiths and some Onryo.

Koei Tecmo has sent out a fresh launch trailer for Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake. Originally made for the PS2, the survival horror game has returned with a remake on Nintendo Switch 2.

Koei Tecmo put out a demo for Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake on all platforms this week, which is allowing fans to put a Nintendo Switch 2 vs. PS5 vs. Xbox Series S/X graphics comparison.

Right now the biggest concern on all platforms might be performance. Although the game targets 30 frames per second everywhere, we’re hearing that it can be unstable. The Nintendo Switch 2 version has a dynamic 1080p resolution from a roughly common 720p-576.

Koei Tecmo has commented on the decision to come out with Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake.

The company has been doing more and more with the series in recent years. There have been a couple of remasters, but now Fatal Frame 2 is receiving the full-blown remake treatment. 

Fatal Frame 2 Crimson Butterfly Remake release date

Previously announced during a Nintendo Direct, Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake secured its release date today. It’ll head to Nintendo Switch 2 on March 12, 2026.

We initially heard about Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake in September. However, now we have a proper release date.

Koei Tecmo is continuing the Fatal Frame series having pulled back the curtain on Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake. The game arrives in early 2026. Japanese voices will be included with support for English, French, German, Italian, and Spanish text.

Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly Remake is a Japanese horror game, and Team Ninja is involved. The 2003 title is getting fully updated graphics and audio, along with gameplay improvements.
