Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller users may encounter sticky thumbsticks – here’s why it’s happening and how to fix it
A small issue has seemingly come to light regarding the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller thumbsticks, causing them to be sticky, though it looks like there’s a simple fix.
Today’s news is circulating after a Japanese content creator found small flakes on the left analogue stick after around 350 hours of use. Also, the stick was a bit sticky around the circumference. After opening the controller, it was discovered that the stick cap’s umbrella grinds on the base ring. That’s what’s ultimately causing it to flake.
Nintendo patents suggest that the design for the controller should have a base ring made of a “wear resistant” material. However, it seems this was changed to a soft material in an effort to make it quieter.
The player was able to address the stickiness after cleaning it out. You’ll have to remove the stick to get underneath and remove any particles. If you can’t do that or are looking for a different solution, you can also send in the controller to Nintendo for repair if it’s still under warranty.
Thankfully, this isn’t anything like Joy-Con drift that affected the original Nintendo Switch. That was more of a major problem as the controller would register inputs that the user wasn’t giving. Joy-Con drifts led to various lawsuits, but Nintendo ultimately prevailed and a couple of cases were dismissed.
