A recently discovered storyboard for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has revealed that the film could have featured even more character appearances than it ultimately did.

In a report recently published by IGN, new details about the film’s development have come to light, showcasing an earlier version of the wedding sequence between Peach and Bowser. This version included several guests who did not make it into the final cut.

According to the material, King Whomp was set to appear, alongside Wart, Mouser, and Birdo, a trio that instead ended up appearing in the more recent film, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie.

Another character that stood out was Rawk Hawk, an antagonist from Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, who recently returned in a Nintendo title following the release of the remake.

The unused storyboards also depict a different version of the wedding scene, in which Peach and Toad pretend to argue so that he can secretly hand her an Ice Flower. Peach then uses it to freeze Bowser at the last moment. The cut dialogue between the two leans into comedy, with the pair launching into a staged argument:

“Maybe if the people I led weren’t cowardly little spores, I wouldn’t have to marry him,” Peach says.

“You’re a rotten Peach,” Toad replies.

After the argument is revealed as a ruse and Bowser is frozen, Toad then quips: “It looks like she got cold feet.”

Unsurprisingly, Nintendo has not commented on the storyboard leak, making it unclear why these characters were ultimately absent from the final version of the film.

As for the most recent movie, Nintendo also revealed that The Super Mario Galaxy Movie includes a disclaimer stating that it may not be used to train AI. If you missed it, you can check out more details here.
