Link has largely stayed quiet since The Legend of Zelda’s debut forty years ago, but that’s likely about to change with the upcoming movie. Now Takaya Imamura, the art director for Zelda: Majora’s Mask, has expressed some concerns.

Imamura, who retired from Nintendo in 2021 after more than thirty years at the company, also worked on Zelda: A Link to the Past. He was also the art director of Star Fox 64 and F-Zero X.

On social media, Imamura shared a few words about the Zelda movie. He had this to say about Link speaking:

“The moment the link speaks, I can’t help but worry a little that the ‘Zelda magic’ everyone has been nurturing in their hearts might just vanish into thin air.”

In talking about this further with a fan, Imamura said that Link will “obviously talk, but it seems like it’ll be a taciturn character, huh.”

The Legend of Zelda movie will come to theaters on May 7, 2027 following a delay. With the series celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, we have some predictions about what to expect here
