Japan’s best-selling games of April 2026 – Tomodachi Life sees big sales in first month

New data provided by Famitsu gives us a look at Japan’s best-selling games of April 2026.

Another cozy game has seen a massive debut with Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream selling over 700,000 copies at retail. Pokemon Pokopia is no slouch either, as it moved another 100,000 units and is approaching one million. For Pragmata, the Nintendo Switch 2 version cracks the top five.

Below is the full list of Japan’s best-selling games of April 2026:

3. [PS5] Pragmata – 49,256 / NEW
4. [NSW] Minecraft – 16,208 / 4,193,529
5. [NS2] Pragmata – 14,453 / NEW

After settling in second previously due to Pokemon Pokopia, Nintendo is back as the top publisher thanks to Tomodachi Life. The company sold about 950,000 copies in the Japanese market last month. The Pokemon Company is in second with Capcom rounding out the top three thanks to Pragmata, Resident Evil Requiem, Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection, and Monster Hunter 3: Twisted Reflection.

Nintendo Switch 2 was the best-selling gaming hardware at the month at 201,706 units. The system has sold over five million units in Japan since launch and is the fastest-selling console there ever. The original Nintendo Switch sold 96,111 units, a slight dip from 103.267 the month before.
