Save files from Metroid Prime 3 not compatible with Metroid Prime Trilogy
Posted on 16 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in News, Wii | 1 Comment
“Due to the way the game data is allocated for production and the changes that we made in the source code, we were unfortunately unable to carry over the save file compatibility from MP3 to Trilogy.” – Mike Wikan, lead game designer at Retro Studios
I wouldn’t necessarily say it’s “unfortunate”, since it’ll give people another reason to play through a fantastic game, but I know some people will be upset that all of their hard work on the game will be lost of they make the transition.
The Conduit map texture hack

Originally I wasn’t going to post this, thinking it was just a one or two guy thing, but apparently this map has spread across NWFC and into online games as well. Just minutes ago I powered up The Conduit and started an online game only to be thrown into a game on this very map. Now, I’ve got to give the map designer credit, it’s not a bad map by any means. It was certainly a fun match and the implementation of cover as well as the new look was, if I may say so, refreshing. If anyone else plays on this map, be sure to leave a comment!
RUMOR: Nintendo’s newest ridiculous peripheral – Could it be a Biicycle?
Posted on 16 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in Rumors, Wii | 2 Comments
It started with the WiiMote, then the Balance Board, then WiiMotion plus, followed by the newly revealed Wii inflatable horseback, and now Nintendo may be up to even more antics with a new patent. This time, for a bicycle pedal peripheral.
Recent marketing slides released may indicate that some company (be it Nintendo or a third party) is planning on releasing a game/peripheral bundle based around cycling. The device would sit on the floor in front of a couch or chair, allowing the player to use their feet to control and utilize the device. No word on whether the slides are in fact real, so I’ll keep this labeled as a rumor for now.
Dead Space Extraction – New gameplay element revealed, and it’s awesome

When it was announced that the next entry in the Dead Space series would be an on rails shooter, many gamers heaved a sigh of disappointment. Nevertheless, Visceral Games (the developers behind the title) insisted that it would reinvent the genre in any different ways. Many people were skeptical, but as more and more footage is seen, more screens released, and more details leaked, many people can’t help but be a little excited for the game. Now, a new detail has been revealed about the title that may just convert another pile of skeptics.
“She thinks she is the last survivor and her goal is to try and get to the tram station she’ll hopefully find more survivors. There is one little snag in her plan, the Necromorph infection is making her demented. She is hearing strange voices and seeing some alien hieroglyphic language on the walls, among other crazy things. The Necromorph infection is causing her to see flashes of color. The screen goes bright white and red for a moment before shifting back to normal.” – Senior Designer John Calhoun
This comes from a recent Nintendo Power interview in which Calhoun goes into detail about the dementia and how it will affect the player and his or her allies. I personally can only think of one other game that has done something like this, and people have been waiting for a sequel to Eternal Darkness for years. This may not be it, but it’s exciting to know that the same gameplay elements will be brought into a new dimension with Dead Space: Extraction.

Spyborgs will be releasing early
Posted on 16 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in News, Wii | 2 Comments
Today we’re announcing that Spyborgs will be dropping a week earlier than originally announced. The Wii-exclusive brawler will now ship on September 22 in North America for an MSRP of $39.99.
This is great news for anyone looking forward to the game, and with the reduced price this is certainly worth a look for anyone that hasn’t been paying attention to it!
Nintendo of Canada- There are no plans to replace Wii Sports with Wii Sports Resort
Posted on 16 years ago by Austin(@NE_Austin) in News, Wii | 3 Comments
“The long-term plan is difficult to say, but I can tell you that there are no plans to make Wii Sports Resort what is packed in with the Wii purchase. What is in the Wii box will remain the same. Wii Sports Resort will not replace Wii Sports. The intention with Wii Sports was to provide an out of the box experience for consumers and we want new consumers and non-owners to experience that just as everybody else has.” – Nintendo of Canada’s Matt Ryan
I’m honestly quite skeptical of this. A WiiMotion Plus+Wii Sports Resort bundle just seems like the right way to go if Nintendo wants to get the device implemented. Of course, this wouldn’t replace Wii Sports in any way, the Wii would just come packaged with 2 games. This would also reinforce their earlier statement about not dropping the price of the Wii in the near future.
In addition, NoC also stated that Nintendo would be supporting MotionPlus fully with many titles implementing the device.
“…in the future, yes, definitely Nintendo will be putting out a lot more games that use Wii MotionPlus, especially when it’s a game that warrants that type of experience and that type of precision.”

EA says that EA Sports Active has an evenly split user base in terms of gender

“Although we focused our marketing campaign on women, EA Sports Active was designed to accommodate everyone and our consumer base reflects that.” – Monique Gomel, marketing director
I think that there’s no surprise that EA Sports Active was targeted at women. From the advertisements to the box art, every one featured a woman either playing the game or talking about it, but it doesn’t come as a surprise when you hear that userbase is split pretty evenly.
