Physical vs digital on Switch 2

It’s 2026, and with each passing year, physical media is phased out just a little bit more – which is why it’s so important that we try to preserve it! Of all three major video game companies, Nintendo has generally made the best effort to preserve its own physical media – with just one exception. Indeed, despite rising manufacturing costs, most of Nintendo’s first and second party offerings are available physically on Switch 2 with no strings attached. And even though that should be kind of a baseline expectation at this point, it’s refreshing to see at least some companies trying to sell physical media. So today, we’re talking about the advantages and disadvantages of physical and digital media, and of course going over the dreaded Game-Key Cards while we’re at it.

Nintendo not only announced Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition for Switch 2 this week, but launched the game digitally as well. But now that players have had some hands-on time with the game, we’re hearing about some visual issues.

Nintendo did say the game runs up to 60 frames per second, and that’s mostly the case. However, the action can run just slightly lower than that in busier areas such as New Los Angeles. The good news is that you’re pretty much getting 60 FPS when moving around Mira or during combat.

February 2: The February 2026 classic icons are rolling out for Nintendo Switch Online members, which are Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and The Mysterious Murasame Castle.

Characters from both games are available, costing 10 Platinum Points each on My Nintendo. The Mysterious Murasame Castle only has four icons. However, there are ten for Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team, including Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, and more.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A soundtrack

January 29: An official release of the Pokemon Legends: Z-A soundtrack has been announced for Japan. It’s a few months out as fans can grab it on April 17, 2026.

The soundtrack will be spread out across five CDs. You’re getting all of the music from Pokemon Legends: Z-A with 148 tracks. As part of this, songs from the Mega Dimension DLC are included.

Ys X: Proud Nordics has received a new launch trailer. The action RPG is available on Nintendo Switch 2 with some new content and even supports 120 FPS.
