dbrand Joy-Lock Controller Holder review for Nintendo Switch 2

dbrand Controller Holder Review

When Nintendo Switch 2 first released last June, everyone was speeding their carrying cases and grips to market – and dbrand’s Killswitch soon emerged as a premium option. Though it had some minor issues with falling off of the the system at the start, those have since been fixed, and it remains one of the best picks if you’re looking for a durable, comfortable case. Now dbrand has released an additional (and less expensive) accessory that promises to make your Joy-Con feel more comfortable than a Pro Controller. That’s a bold claim, so does it hold up?

Basically, dbrand’s Joy-Lock Controller Holder is an adjustable base that two Joy-Cons can snap to. You’ll also need the Joy-Lock grips attached your Joy-Con before snapping them to the controller holder. But once you’ve got them all together, this actually is extremely comfortable to hold – the Joy-Lock controllers have a fantastic texture feel, and the raised area on the bottom of each Joy-Con makes them feel comfortable to hold.

The Joy-Lock Controller Holder is adjustable, like we mentioned, and personally I prefer adjusting the controllers outward by one. You can really take this setup to the next level with some thumb grips. I personally like Savage Raven’s better than dbrand, but both work great here.

So the question is, is this setup more comfortable than a Pro Controller? Kind of? Not really, but almost? There are pros and cons to each one. The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller has much smoother control sticks than the Joy-Con 2 – they feel like they glide seamlessly, whereas the Joy-Con 2’s are just okay. This isn’t dbrand’s problem, of course, but their setup does offer some more advantages. For one, the Joy-Lock grips can be used in handheld mode as well, which means buying a Joy-Lock and controller holder set is technically cheaper than shelling out $90 USD for a Pro Controller. The actual texture of the Joy-Lock grips is also a bit better than the Pro Controller’s, in my opinion – it’s very sweat-resistant, so for anyone who has that problem, you may have better luck with the Joy-Lock grips.

If you’re interested in checking them out, you can do so here. For the price, this is an easy recommendation if you want a setup that’s easily usable both in handheld mode and docked mode.

Have you tried any of dbrand’s controller options yet? If so, what did you think? Let us know in the comments.
