Original: Nintendo just announced an unexpected pricing change for future games on Switch 2 that will see the digital versions going cheaper.

This starts in May 2026. Beginning with pre-orders for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, new Nintendo published digital games exclusive to Nintendo Switch 2 will have an MSRP that is different from physical versions.

Nintendo said in its announcement:

Nintendo games offer the same experiences whether in packaged or digital format, and this change simply reflects the different costs associated with producing and distributing each format and offers players more choice in how they can buy and play Nintendo games.

As always, retail partners set their own prices for physical and digital games, and pricing for each title may vary.

Right now you can pre-order Yoshi and the Mysterious Book on the Nintendo eShop for $59.99. If you’re interested in the physical version, it’ll be $69.99 instead.

Currently this news only seems to apply to the United States and Canada. We’ll let you know if we hear anything else about the situation.

Update: We’re also hearing it’ll be the same in Brazil. For Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, it will be sold for R$ 329.00 (around $63 USD), whereas new releases like Pokemon Pokopia and Mario Kart world were priced at R$439.90 (around $85 USD).

Also, while there isn’t any updates for Europe, the same practice has essentially been in practice for quite some time now, so additional changes aren’t expected.
