Nintendo just released a new Handheld Mode Boost feature for Switch 2
A big feature has just made its way to Nintendo Switch 2 with the Handheld Boost Mode.
When playing a game on the system, there are specific restrictions in place when docked or in handheld mode. Now, however, the lines have been blurred a bit.
Nintendo Switch 2 (and Switch) just received its version 22.0.0 firmware. What might be the most significant feature of all is the Handheld Mode Boost. According to Nintendo, it “will cause compatible Switch software to run as if in TV Mode”. Basically, the performance of Nintendo Switch games while undocked can run as if it were being played in TV mode for improved visuals. This can help make titles look better as on Nintendo Switch, handheld resolution was limited to 720p while Switch 2’s screen supports 1080p.
The company does caution that “certain functionality may be affected.” Power consumption may be increased as well. Players are advised to see the on-device description for more details.
You can tinker around with this by heading over to the system settings. Then select the “System” tab, select Nintendo Switch Software Handling, and turn on “Handheld Mode Boost”.
