Fortnite: Save the World coming to Nintendo Switch 2, will be free-to-play
Epic today announced plans for Fortnite: Save the World, including the news that it’ll be on Nintendo Switch 2 as a free-to-play game.
Save the World is what Fortnite originally started as in 2017 – before it become the massively popular battle royale. It’s described as “a PvE, action-building co-op campaign where no two games of building forts, crafting weapons, and holding back monster hordes were ever the same.”
It’s taken almost a decade, but Fortnite: Save the World will now be free-to-play. This is going into effect on April 16, 2026.
Pre-registration starts today here. Those who do so can earn in-game rewards, including a Save the World Hero. Current players will receive Superchargers, Vouchers, and Gold on April 16 as a thank you for the last nine years of world saving. Founders will continue earning V-Bucks through Daily Quests, Mission Alerts, Storm Shield Defense Missions, and existing Challenges.
The main Fortnite experience is already available on Nintendo Switch 2. You can find a list of the many ways it’s improved over the Nintendo Switch version here.
