Following the recent launch of Fallout 4 on Nintendo Switch 2, Digital Foundry has delivered its technical verdict and shared details on elements like frame rate and resolution.

Overall, it looks like Bethesda has put out a respectable effort here, largely due to the ability to choose from different frame rate modes.

Here’s the roundup of tidbits:

– 60 FPS, 40 FPS, and 30 FPS modes
– Only the resolution changes between these three modes
– No graphical changes based on which one you choose
– Docked resolution can be between 1440p and 720p
– DLSS support coming in a future update
– Docked resolution for 30 FPS mode hits 1440p most consistently
– 40 FPS tends to be around 1080p
– 60 FPS can get pretty low, such as 864p, and 720p in battles
– Portable resolution for 30 FPS tends to be 1080p
– 40 FPS drops portable resolution to 810-990p
– 60 FPS can drop to as low at 504p
– No graphical cutbacks between handheld/docked
– Switch 2 identical in close-up details, shadow quality, and shadow draw distances to PS5/Xbox Series S
– Level of detail setting for foliage, objects, and buildings are a close match for base PS4s
– Switch 2 doesn’t match foliage setting of any current gen hardware, and doesn’t render in all the very distant building details while panning the camera from the Corvega factory rooftop
