The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Believe it not, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is almost ten years old. It was a massive game for many reasons – it launched alongside Nintendo Switch, was a new take for the series by going fully open-world, and introduced various aspects like voice acting in a mainline game for the characters.

Patricia Summersett has been the voice of Princess Zelda since 2017. After working on Breath of the Wild, she returned for Tears of the Kingdom as well as the Hyrule Warriors titles Age of Calamity and last year’s Age of Imprisonment.

Specifically on Nintendo Switch, Thai support is included. And for both versions, unnamed issues have been addressed. However, exact details on this front weren’t provided.

Here’s the official notice from Nintendo:

Zelda Breath of the Wild 1.8.2 Tears of the Kingdom 1.4.2 update

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom both received updates today, with the two moving up to versions 1.8.2 and 1.4.2 respectively.

Both are mainly about improving things with Zelda Notes. On top of that, for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo has addressed an issue with background music not being played on Switch 2.

The full rundown is as follows:

In a recruitment post on Nintendo’s website, developer Daigo Shimizu spoke about what it was like working on the UI for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the and Tears of the Kingdom.

Shimizu spoke about how starting with Breath of the Wild, the team opted for “a more streamlined approach.” That means removing clutter and focusing on what was truly necessary. If you’ve played either Nintendo Switch title, you may have noticed that there isn’t a ton happening on screen aside from the actual game world.

The idea of practicality and ‘happiness’ was something brought up for the loading screens. Breath of the Wild featured tips, but Tears of the Kingdom showed the map to get players excited about exploration. Along the same lines, the theme of ‘happiness’ was used for cooking and specifically the Recipe Book in Tears of the Kingdom as the team felt “people feel happy by looking at restaurant menus or pictures of food”.

Breath of the Wild Tears of the Kingdom equipment repairs Zelda Notes

New information has come to light that The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom will support weapon repairs, which is done through the upcoming Zelda Notes portion of the Nintendo Switch app.

The durability system in Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom was one of the more controversial aspects of the games. Over time, equipment would break with use. If you had a certain weapon you really liked, once you whacked enemies enough times with it, generally it’d break and you’d lose it.

Zelda Breath of the Wild Switch 2 Edition no DLC

According to a statement from Nintendo, the company’s new Switch 2 Edition for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild won’t include the game’s Expansion Pass DLC. That additional content will be sold separately as was the case on Nintendo Switch and Wii U.

The game itself costs $70 on its own. If you’re interested in the Expansion Pass, that’ll cost another $20. For players looking to grab everything there is to offer, the whole thing will set them back $90.

Zelda Breath of the Wild Switch 2 vs Switch 1 comparison

During today’s Nintendo Treehouse: Live event, official footage was shown that offered a graphics comparison for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on Switch 2 vs. Switch 1.

This is one of the upcoming titles that will have extra bells and whistles on the new console. Aside from an improved resolution, the action is now at 60 frames per second rather than 30. That results in an experience that’s booth smoother and clearer. Especially with the comparison, that’s especially evident. Loading is significant improved as well.
