Resident Evil 7 and Village Nintendo Switch 2 tech analysis, including frame rate and resolution
Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil Village just came to Nintendo Switch 2 a few days ago, and Digital Foundry has now come through with a technical analysis which includes frame rate, resolution, and more.
Resident Evil 7 seems to be the better port, which makes sense since Village has evolved tech. While the resolution in Village seems fine, the performance could use some improvements.
Here’s a rundown of what was shared:
Resident Evil 7
– Similar to the PS4 version
– Gamma presentation quirk on Switch 2 has the game’s blacks lifted relative to other platforms
– Less aggressive shadow cascades on Switch 2 compared to PS4, which is a plus
– Volumetric resolution seems somewhat reduced
– Resolution at about 720p when docked, upscaled to 1080p (likely with DLSS)
– Image quality improved on Switch 2 compared to PS4
– Handheld resolution of about 432p, but is upscaled
– Screen space reflections suffer on Switch 2, which could be due to the lower internal resolution
– Frame rate is 60 FPS without any major dips
Resident Evil Village
– Frame rate also targets 60 FPS
– Compared to Resident Evil 7, there are notable dips in exterior spaces
– Can hold 60 FPS for long stretches in interior areas
– Exteriors such as the reservoir can drop to the 40s
– Resolution is similar to Resident Evil 7
– Snowfall is only faintly visible or practically invisible on Switch 2
– Volumetric lighting different on Switch 2 that gives thick, dense fog that can obscure distant details
– Switch 2 is better than Xbox Series S for image quality, but not frame rate
