Global figures are in for The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, more records broken
More box office results are in for The Super Mario Galaxy, and now we have a better idea about how the film performed outside of North America.
We heard that the film had the best opening day of the year at the box office and the best opening Wednesday in April in the United States and Canada. Similar records are being broken elsewhere.
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie posted a full-day Wednesday global figure of $68.4 million, $33.9 million of that from 78 markets. Compared to the last film, it’s a slight increase. The Super Mario Bros. Movie debuted with $66.4 million ($34.7 million offshore).
Here’s a breakdown of the results, courtesy of Deadline:
– Mexico: $6.7 million for the biggest Universal opening ever and second biggest animated opening ever (The Super Mario Bros. Movie was $5.9 million)
– UK & Ireland: $4.3 million, second highest single-day preview figure for an animated film in the history of box office
– Germany: $3.8 million, biggest animated opening of all-time and Universal’s biggest opening of all-time (The Super Mario Bros. Movie was $2.8 million)
– Spain: $3 million, second highest opening day for an animated title of all-time, third biggest opening day of all-time (The Super Mario Bros. Movie was $2.2 million)
– France: $2.9 million, second biggest Illumination opening of all-time (biggest outside of holidays)
– Central America: $1.8 million: second biggest opening day of all-time, only behind Avengers: Endgame (The Super Mario Bros. Movie had $1.3 million)
– Australia: $700,000, biggest Universal opening day of all-time and the biggest animation opening day of all-time
– More markets: Italy ($1.5 million), Colombia ($1.1 million)
