It’s your last chance to use GameChat for free on Nintendo Switch 2

We’re closing in on a pretty big change for GameChat on Nintendo Switch 2 as in just a few days, the service will no longer be free.

Since the launch of the system last June, everyone has been able to use GameChat. However, that will soon no longer be the case. Nintendo will be requiring users to be a Switch Online member. This will go into effect after March 31, 2026.

The one good thing is that the feature won’t be locked behind the Expansion Pack tier. As long as you have any sort of Nintendo Switch Online membership, GameChat will be available to you.

For those unaware of GameChat, it lets players communicate with friends online. The built-in mic on Nintendo Switch 2 can be used to voice chat while playing games with up to twelve people in different locations and up to four friends can share their screen.

On the topic of GameChat, Nintendo recently talked about why the feature was given a dedicated button on the Switch 2 controller and even shared some logo designs. We have more on this here.
