After some initial hands-on impressions with the Nintendo Switch 2 version of Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on Nintendo Switch 2 last year, concerns were raised about the game’s performance. Several months later, it now looks like there’s been a significant improvement.

A new build of Elden Ring’s Nintendo Switch 2 version was brought to the Game Developers Conference this week. The latest impressions indicate that FromSoftware has implemented some notable improvements.

Polygon reports that “the new build seems much more stable than what FromSoftware publicly showcased last summer.” Image quality in particular is a standout. For frame rate, it’s not anywhere close to 60 FPS, but is more comparable to the Steam Deck. Polygon estimates “that it was running in the 30 to 40 FPS range, depending on how demanding the scene was.” However, the site’s reporter did encounter a dip “when it started raining while riding Torrent through the world.”

Some new handheld footage has also come in from GDC. Get a look at the video below.

Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition will be on Nintendo Switch 2 later this year. It was previously planned for 2025, but FromSoftware ended up delaying the game.
