Ecco the Dolphin remaster

The previously-teased remaster of the classic SEGA action adventure game Ecco the Dolphin is apparently bound for Nintendo Switch.

That information comes from this week’s issue of Japanese magazine Famitsu. In the two-page spread, Nintendo Switch is the only listed platform for the project. A release on that system would make sense, and it’s certainly capable of handling it.

Series creator Ed Annunziata also gave some insight into the Ecco the Dolphin remaster while speaking with Famitsu. According to Annunziata, while people are familiar with the game, many haven’t experienced it to the end. The remaster will let the team spruce up the visuals and offer a more accessible version.

Annunziata confirmed that there are plans to include the 8-bit, 16-bit, and 32-bit eras together in a single package. Additionally, a system is planned that allows real-time switching of visual styles. The remaster is intended to be “something that allows you to experience the history of the series itself.” While the name is still being decided, “Ecco Complete” could end up being the final title.

A remaster of Ecco: The Tides of Time was previously teased as well. On top of that, a brand new game is planned, though Annunziata only asked fans to “look forward to further updates.”
