Best Mario games ranked

Nintendo recently celebrated its favorite holiday, MAR10 Day – which means there’s no better time to rank the mainline Super Mario titles. For reference, this only includes games that the company considers to be “main series”, which generally includes 2D Mario and 3D Mario, but not Wario Land or Yoshi’s Island (even though the former was called Super Mario Land 3 and the latter Super Mario World 2). It also includes Super Mario Run, for whatever reason, and as you might expect that game is nowhere to be found on our list.

Before you read, keep in mind that this is of course a heavily subjective list, and it’s more to promote all of you ranking your own lists in the comments down below than anything else. Feel free to share your thoughts after you read our top ten!

Earlier today, the White House posted a new video on social media for Operation Epic Fury, which has dragged Nintendo into the discussion for its use of Wii footage.

The clip starts out by offering a different take on the Wii Channels that were popular back in the day. After that, the clip is cut between gameplay from Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort as well as attacks on Iranian military infrastructure.

We’re many years past the Wii generation, but believe it or not, 2026 will bring us a brand new game for the old console – and it’s even getting a physical release.

Nai Adventure is cooking up Metal Canary, a shoot ’em up game. You’ll be using the Wii Remote and nunchuck to dodge and shoot enemies just like it’s 2006 all over again. Old Game will be in charge of the physical release.

New data has been released that reveals games that sold exactly one unit in the United States during 2025 on older Nintendo platforms. Wii U is the newest of the bunch, but this stretches all the way back to the Game Boy.

Nintendo’s Kensuke Tanabe, the producer of Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, has spoken about the rush to get the game finished as quickly as possible.

Metroid Prime 2 came out for the GameCube in 2004, which was just a couple of years after its predecessor. Tanabe reconfirmed that a multiplayer-focused Metroid Prime “1.5” was once considered, but Retro wanted “to create a robust, standalone sequel”.

Tanabe shared in the new Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective book:

Metroid Prime ended up as one of the most acclaimed Nintendo games of all time, but the path getting there was far from easy. Series producer Kensuke Tanabe recently opened up about the game’s development and working with Retro Studios in the upcoming Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective book.

As we’ve previously heard, Retro Studios was initially working on several games that were mostly scrapped. The company shifted all of its focus into creating a Metroid game following a visit from Shigeru Miyamoto.

A comprehensive graphics comparison has come in for Super Mario Galaxy, putting the Wii, Nintendo Switch, and Switch 2 versions of the game up against each other.

Wii is of course the very original release. Following that, the Super Mario 3D All-Stars version is included. The last part of the equation is the new Nintendo Switch edition showing it on that console as well as on Switch 2.

When Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney was coming to the west for the first time, Capcom apparently considered it as a “throwaway game”. That’s according to Steve Anderson, a localizer that worked on the English release.

Capcom apparently didn’t have much faith that the game would sell outside of Japan. In fact, Anderson said the publisher limited how many units it produced for the first run.

Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective

November 25: Metroid Prime 1-3: A Visual Retrospective, a new collaboration between Piggyback and Nintendo, has been revealed.

The art book will cover the first three games in the series. Fans can expect a celebration of the franchise’s art “with exclusive insights from the game developers.” The hardcover book spans over 200 pages. Interestingly, this is Piggyback’s first art book.

After over ten long years, the future of Mario Kart is finally here. Indeed, the gap between Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart World has been the longest in the franchise’s history. Sure, we received Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Kart Tour, and Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit, but none of these were intended to be the next big Mario Kart game. Mario Kart World is exactly that, and with a new era for the series soon beginning, we figured it’s a great time to look at the development history of the Mario Kart franchise as a whole. There’s an absolutely huge amount of information here, so we’ll be telling the condensed version of Mario Kart’s history.
