January 26: Advertising from Walmart may have outed a couple of upcoming GameCube games for Nintendo Switch Online on Switch 2.

Over on the retailer’s hub for the company, there’s an image focusing on its online service. Various games are showcased with many titles that are already available. However, a couple of other interesting additions are featured – Metroid Prime 2: Echoes and Pikmin 2. So far, these titles have not launched on Nintendo Switch Online.

Here’s a look at the graphic:

You never quite know what Nintendo will do with Switch Online. Wario World launched as the most recent GameCube a little while back, which no one expected.

A number of other GameCube games have also been announced but have not yet gone live. These include Super Mario Sunshine, Pokemon Colosseum, and Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness. The Pokemon titles could drop as part of Pokemon Day in February.

As of now it’s not currently clear if Walmart knows something we don’t or if the retailer simply created a fancy graphic and threw in Metroid Prime 2 and Pikmin 2 for the heck of it. If these titles are announced for the service later, we’ll let you know.

January 29: Nintendo has issued a statement and has indicated that the image was correct. The full note states:

“We recently provided a retailer with an image of Nintendo GameCube – Nintendo Classics titles that incorrectly included games that are not planned for release at this time. The image has been removed, and we apologize for any confusion.”
